Tipping the Scales

If Donald Trump’s nominee to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, who announced his retirement on June 27, is confirmed by the Senate, the Supreme Court will have a stable majority of conservative justices for the first time since before the New Deal. Kennedy’s successor will be Trump’s second Surpreme Court pick and may not be his last. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who is eighty-five, clearly wishes to stay on the Court as long as Trump is president. So does Justice Stephen Breyer, who turns eighty later this year. But neither is immortal. Especially if Trump is reelected, he could potentially replace both of these justices with staunch young conservatives.

1.

To Donald Trump it seems as though the “Deep State” has arisen from the depths of the dismal swamp of Washington to torment him. He sees a cabal of his political enemies—foremost the men who have led the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Security Agency, and the Central Intelligence Agency—as a cryptocracy operating under the cover of the constitutionally established government, an immense conspiracy, a dark force seeking to destroy him. The president awakens to tweet thunderbolts against it before Fox & Friends signs on at dawn. (To wit: May 23, 2018, 6:54 AM: “the Criminal Deep State. They go after Phony Collusion with Russia, a made up Scam….”)

Singapore Sham

There are two possibilities: either President Trump was as ignorant after his June 12 meeting with Kim Jong-un about what North Korea has in mind when it pledges “complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula” as he was in March when he brushed aside warnings from his aides and rushed to accept Kim’s invitation to meet. This would mean that in the intervening three months he learned nothing about the past quarter-century of failed efforts to stop North Korea’s nuclear program and genuinely believes he accomplished something in Singapore.

Soon, according to a June report in The Washington Post, the moment of truth will arrive. Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating the president, his administration, and his campaign, will deliver his verdict on whether Donald Trump obstructed justice.

Bibi: The Turbulent Life and Times of Benjamin Netanyahu

by Anshel Pfeffer

Perhaps it’s now impossible to read any political biography without thinking of Donald Trump. The forty-fifth president of the United States looms so large in the global imagination that the impulse to measure all other politicians against him has become almost involuntary. But in the case of Benjamin Netanyahu, the grounds for comparison are stronger than most.

Irish Slavery & So-called Myths

Friday 29 June 2018 at 5:19 pm

my mother, mary kate mitchell, from sligo, told me stories like the following essay,  She  also confided in me: the cruelty she and her sister Bridget (my Godmother) endured from the black adn tans when she was a teenager, circ 1915. After my mother's death, my Unclel Michael, aka Maick the Sarge, (my mothers oldest brother) confirmed the story. Also my first cousin, Thomas Mitchell, now a successful contractor in Dublin, took me to the flower garden on Kilmaccannon Road, about a mile west of the Mitchell homestead, to the palce where my molther and her sister, Bridget were attacked.  There is more to this story which i will not share.

The following story is apparently controversial, at least to one of my grandsons.  But I for one, as a student of Irish culture and Black Slavery believe the story.

i hope some of the poverty pimps get a chance to read this.

During the 1650s, over 100,000 Irish children aged 10 to 14 were taken from their parents and sold as slaves in the West Indies, Virginia and New England. In this decade, 52,000 Irish (mostly women and children) were sold to Barbados and Virginia.

Admirable and Execrable-Jesuits

Friday 29 June 2018 at 4:37 pm

Jesuits have never been shy about naming schools and other institutions after “Ours” (as they
refer to each other)—Loyola, Xavier, Gonzaga, Canisius, Marquette. I went to Campion High
School, where I was on the Bellarmine Debating Society, before entering St. Stanislaus
Seminary—all three of them named for Jesuit saints. So one might have expected the first
Jesuit pope to take his papal name from a Jesuit saint; there are, conveniently, two called
Francis—Saint Francis Xavier and Saint Francis Borja (general of the order from 1565 to
1572)...

WHERE COLIN KAEPERNICK GOT HIS IDEA TO KNEEL & DISRESPECT THE FLAG?

Friday 29 June 2018 at 4:27 pm

Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171...
During rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present (except those in uniform) are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Or, at the very least, "Stand and Face It".

Senator Obama replied:
"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides." "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression..." "The anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all that sort of thing."
Obama continued: "The National Anthem should be 'swapped' for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing'. If that were our anthem, then, I might salute it. In my opinion, we should consider reinventing our National Anthem as well as 'redesign' our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love.   It’s my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we,as a Nation of warring people, conduct ourselves like the nations of Islam, where peace prevails, perhaps a state or period of mutual accord could exist between our governments". When I Become President, I will seek a pact of agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation, have placed upon the nations of Islam, an unfair injustice which is WHY my wife disrespects the Flag and she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past".

"Of course now, I have found myself about to become The President of the United States and I have put my hatred aside. I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path.  My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First black Family. Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America."
