TIME REGAINED - JAMES GLEICK

Lee Smolin is one of my favorite physicists; he is a leader and a contrarian and is closer to the truth than most, in my reality. I have read all of Gleick’s books.

I have always had a lot of difficulty with Einstein’s Relativity stuff and space time.  The space time  folks argue that space and time are inextricably  joined in the fourth dimension. They argue that space and time are interlocked permanently and that the passing of time is an illusion.  They argue that the past, present and future all exist at the same time (sorry for the pun);   The math works out OK but it is not my reality.  Smolin to the rescue; he argues that time flows and that time is reality and space is an illusion. OK with me.

PS:  if you accept Smolins argument that time is real and flows and that space is an illusion; then it is muich easier to understand quantum  theory which is weird but always since it discovery nearly 100 years ago, produced the right answer.  Btw, Newton believe spaced was an entity unto himself and that things existed in space. Leibnitz argued that space was set of relationships but he lost out to Newton. My guess is that Smolin will have a profound impact on the future of science.
