Powerful stuff. With discretion, pass this one on to any Viet Nam veteran you know and let them know that their sacrifices are remembered. Those people that are combat vets deserve our thanks and need to be remembered. Unfortunately, when they returned from this hell, many of them were never thanked and more often scorned for their service to their country and some of them still suffer from PTSD.
Thanks to all who care....
some of my friends wrote back to me and said our military should be held to a higher standard; (with regard to the recent incident with 4 Marines in Afghanistan). I am appalled. Our military is the gold standard. [see Colonel West’s comments a few pages down from these remarks.]
it would be helpful if the cowardly media and rotten politicians were held to a higher standard. joe
……
JUST STAY!
A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside.
“Your son is here,” she said to the old man.
She had to repeat the words several times before the patient’s eyes opened.
Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man’s limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.
The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man’s hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile.
He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.
Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night.
Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited.
Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her.
“Who was that man?” he asked.
The nurse was startled, “He was your father,” she answered.
“No, he wasn’t,” the Marine replied. “I never saw him before in my life.”
“Then why didn’t you say something when I took you to him?”
“I knew right away there had been a mistake,
But I also knew he needed his son, and his
Son just wasn’t here.
When I realized that he was too sick to tell
Whether or not I was his son,
Knowing how much he needed me, I stayed.”
I came here tonight to find a Mr. William Grey. His Son was Killed in Iraq today, and I was sent to inform him.
What was this Gentleman’s Name? The Nurse with Tears in Her Eyes Answered, Mr. William Grey………….
The next time someone needs you … Just be there. Stay.

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), a former Army lieutenant colonel, sends THE WEEKLY STANDARD an email commenting on the Marines' video, and has given us permission to publish it.
“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.
“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?
“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter. “As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.”
Germain is an amazing language. I never studied Germain, yet I understood every word the commentator has to say.
Joe, Is it any wonder that these are the same folks who tried to conquer the developed world back in the 1930s and 1940s?? No one should ever underestimate either their ingenuity or their collective insanity. In addition to the operator, the keys are the slots that the end of the boom fit into at each level and the steel hooks that hook around each rung on the tower as the boom is being moved from one level to the other. Without these 2 fastening device, the center of gravity of the tractor would plunge the tractor to earth as the operator of the tractor moved it from one level to the next. A truly amazing demonstration.Tom
He says the truth as clearly and concisely as I have ever heard……. Dealing With Muslims
Two Black Americans were elected to congress this cycle, and both are Republican. Col. West is from southern Florida . He won in a walk. This new Congressman was an extremely popular commander in Iraq . He was forced to retire because during an intense combat action a few of his men were captured. At the same time his men captured one of the guys who were with the Iraqis who captured his men. Knowing that time was crucial and his interrogators were not getting anywhere with the prisoner, Col. West took matters into his own hands. He burst into the room and demanded thru an interpreter that the prisoner tell him where his men were being taken. The prisoner refused so Col. West took out his pistol and placed it into the prisoner's crotch and fired. Then the Col. told the prisoner that the next shot would not miss. So the prisoner said he would show where the American service members were being taken. The Americans were rescued. Someone filed a report on incorrect handling of prisoners. Col. West was forced to retire. Col. West was just elected in November 2010 to Congress from Florida . During the elections he was part of a panel on how to handle or how to relate to Muslims. You will see his answer here explaining in just over a minute the truth about Islam. Please watch and if you agree, please forward it to your friends; if you disagree, you're a dolt. Hit the DELETE BUTTON. Vahan.
