[WORK IN PROGRESS]Biden to voters: Time to stop blaming George Bush
Speaking Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden said voters should look to economic policies put in place under the Obama administration instead of blaming the Bush administration.
“There’s a lot of people in Florida that have good reason to be upset because they’ve lost jobs,” Mr. Biden said. “Even though 50 some percent of the American people think the economy tanked because of the last administration, that’s not relevant.”
WHY IS BIDEN BLAMING OBAMA? WHY NOT PELOSI? THE CRISIS REALLY STARTED (in the markets) THE DAY PELOSI EFFECTIVEL DEFEATED THE PAULSLON BAILOUT where the money was proposed to buy up bad assets.
“What’s relevant is, we’re in charge. And right now, we are the ones in charge, and it’s gotten better but it hasn’t gotten good enough. And in states like Florida it’s even been more stagnant because of the real estate market,” Mr. Biden added.
“Right now — understandably, totally legitimate — this is a referendum on Obama and Biden and the nature and state of the economy,” Mr. Biden said. “It’s soon going to be a choice.”
Still, Mr. Biden said voters should re-elect Mr. Obama, citing the current field of Republican presidential contenders. Speaking Thursday, Mr. Biden said the alternative to an Obama administration is almost certainly worse.
“Look, don’t compare me to the Almighty — compare me to the alternative,” the vice president said. “That’s what’s going to happen here.”
Mr. Biden, who traveled to Florida for a campaign event on Thursday, makes the comment as the economy continues to face challenges. A Labor Department report released last months shows the nation’s rate of unemployment above 9 percent, a statistic that is likely to play a major role in the upcoming election. Meanwhile, a new CNN/ORC International Poll finds nearly 90 percent of respondents say that economic conditions remain poor, the highest percentage since Mr. Obama assumed office in 2009.
The CNN poll also found that most Americans still blame former President George W. Bush for the faltering economy. Asked which administration is to blame, 52 percent of respondents blame the previous administration, while only 32 percent point a finger at Mr. Obama and Democrats in Congress
